GREENVILLE UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST FELLOWSHIP
WELCOMES NEW MINISTER
Greenville, South Carolina – The Greenville Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (GUUF) is pleased to announce the installation of its Settled Minister, The Reverend Christina Hockman, who has been serving the congregation since August 2022. The installation ceremony will take place on May 7 at 4:30pm at the Fellowship.
Rev. Hockman earned a Bachelor of Arts in Human Development at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL, and a Master of Business Administration at The Pennsylvania State University. She completed a Master of Divinity in 2016 at Meadville Lombard Theological School in Chicago IL, and was ordained into Unitarian Universalist ministry shortly thereafter.
From 2016 to 2022, Rev. Hockman served as Minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Corpus Christi, TX. Prior to entering ministry, she worked in both business and nonprofit fundraising, most recently with the Science Museum of Virginia Foundation.
When asked why she moved into ministry from a successful career in business, she replied, “My transition was gradual over years of volunteer work and lay leadership. I discovered my sense of purpose lies in service to others.”
Rev. Hockman continued, “I am energized by the spiritual growth and transformation of individuals and groups to build The Beloved Community. Through worship and programs that serve the whole person – head, heart and spirit, I want to work with a congregation to reach out to the larger community. I believe we can move past barriers of race, class, theology, national origin and ability to make the world a more just and loving place.”
“After living in Richmond, Virginia for more than 20 years, I was particularly excited to return to the Southeast,” she said. “The opportunity to serve such an active UU congregation as GUUF, made coming to Greenville an even more attractive option. For years, GUUF has been setting the standard with its practice of liberal, open-minded and inclusive religion.”
Rev. Hockman resides in the Judson community with her two rescue dogs. She is an avid yogi who enjoys paddle boarding and other outdoor activities, as well as social dancing, particularly salsa.

The Greenville Unitarian Universalist Fellowship was founded in 1950 by a group of twelve people whose interests centered around civil rights issues and the study of humanism. The Fellowship is a member congregation of the Unitarian Universalist Association which was formed in 1961 as a combination of the Unitarian and Universalist denominations. Both traditions have their roots in the earliest days of the Christian Church. As a liberal religious community, the Greenville UU Fellowship embraces freedom of thought, encourages spiritual growth and practices social responsibility.
