We are sad to report that Dorothy R. Emery passed in the early morning hours of July 13, 2020. A virtual memorial service was held Saturday, August 15, 2020 at 2:00PM.
Daughter of Evelyn Roosemann and Larry Roosemann, Dorothy attended St. Cecilia High School, and graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in Occupational Therapy. Throughout her life, Dorothy used her OT skills to help others heal and improve, and especially found joy in helping children.
Dorothy is remembered as a loving wife and caring mother who cared deeply for her family and community, even during difficult times. She supported her husband John Emery in trials and tribulations throughout 38 years of marriage and 42 years of love.
An avid reader, Dorothy spent many hours of her free time engrossed in books, particularly science fiction and fantasy. It is a lifelong love that she passed on to her son, Kevin. Her other hobbies included needlework, painting, caring for her pets, and travel. Some of the trips most celebrated by her family include a tour of Europe, a week vacation in Ireland, and two fantastic Caribbean cruises.
Her open mind and easy humor were well-known by her friends and associates, and will be particularly missed. She could brighten even the darkest of rooms with an off the cuff comment, and had a sharp but kind wit. Her open mind and liberal disposition were defining character traits, and she stoutly defended her principles as a liberal and as a Unitarian Universalist.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, who are all hard hit by this loss. As Dorothy herself would say, however, “Know that I will always be with you in your heart.”
