Beloved Conversations: 28 Feb.

BE A PART OF THIS CHALLENGING AND ENLIGHTENING PROGRAM AT GUUF. 1.5 -DAY WORKSHOP INTENSIVE: Friday, February 28, 5:00-9:00 PM & Saturday, February 29, 9:00 AM-4:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall

Beloved Conversations  is a series of training workshops where participants create intentional space for exploring the effects of racism and marginalization in our culture, in our own lives, and in our congregation, and learn ways to end or reverse the damaging impacts.

Wait. What?  RACISM?  AGAIN? Why would I need this?  I’m a UU.  I’m a good person.  I believe in a fair and peaceful world. I’m not a racist! Yep. Maybe not. But it’s in the air we breathe, part of a collective system that holds us ALL hostage. Centuries of racially informed social, emotional, economic, and religious beliefs and practices have wounded every person, no matter their identity.

Beloved Conversations is a rigorous curriculum, one of the highest levels of lay training available for Unitarian Universalists. It is also enlightening and extremely rewarding. Through this deep work, people of good will reckon with how and why both personal and group experiences matter, and they examine ways to live and act in a spirit of reconciliation that brings inner growth and spiritual healing.

OK.  So, when and where, and what is required?

Beloved Conversations begins with a 1.5 day Workshop Intensive led by a facilitator from Meadville Lombard Seminary, followed by eight small group workshops led by two-person facilitator teams from our congregation. The small groups meet weekly for about two hours. By signing up, you commit to attending the Weekend Intensive AND the eight small group sessions that follow. Although invariably we must accommodate the unexpected, partial attendance is not given as an option.
