The world has lost a treasured soul with the passing of Brendan Bergin Smith on August 8, 2024. Brendan left this world, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, kindness, and a life rich in accomplishments and relationships.

Brendan was born on April 8, 1971 to Betsy and Charlie Smith. He grew up alongside his sister, Laura, in Greenville, South Carolina. A graduate of J.L. Mann High School in 1989, Brendan furthered his education at Guilford College , earning a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. He went on to work for the United States Department of State for 20 years.

In 2017, Brendan married the love of his life, Suzanne. Together they had a life filled with love and laughter. Brendan was a proud dad to Jack McConnell. Although he came into Jack’s life when Jack was in elementary school, Brendan was proud to call him his son. He cherished his family and friends above all others and made his love known to each and every one.

Brendan’s life was enriched by his love of learning, teaching everyone around him the things he learned, and making countless spreadsheets. He was well known for his intelligence, musical talent, and huge heart.

Brendan’s memory will be cherished and kept alive by his loving wife Suzanne, his son Jack, his sister Laura, his mother Betsy, and his father Charlie. His absence will also be profoundly felt by a community of friends and family who loved, respected, and admired him.

A Memorial Gathering will be held at 3:00 p.m. on August 24th, at the Greenville Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, and a Celebration of Life Gathering in Saluda, North Carolina on October 12th.
