DEADLINE IS SUNDAY, JANUARY 27
SPECIAL FRIENDS WEEK IS FEBRUARY 10-17, 2018
Our lovely SPECIAL FRIENDS program has created some long-lasting
friendships in the Fellowship over the years! Friendly adults and children in Pre-K through 5th Grade pair up for a Valentine’s week of delightful surprises, culminating in a big reveal and lunch party during the UU World of Children’s Spaghetti Luncheon on Sunday, February 17.
ADULTS secretly pair with a child in our RE program. The week before Valentine’s Day, they contact the children’s parents, and then begin sending special valentine messages, treats, poems, riddles, puzzles, etc, by mail. The big reveal happens on Sunday, February 17, and Special Friends and families eat lunch together at the World of Children’s traditional Spaghetti Luncheon.
CHILDREN & PARENTS : If your child is signed up, your child’s Special Friend will contact you sometime during the week before Valentine’s Day. You can share information about your child’s interests and what gets her or him most excited. During the week, little gifts, puzzles, cards, etc will arrive through the mail for your child. It’s very exciting and mysterious! We hope all our RE children between age 3 and 5th Grade will want to participate. Past participants, both young and old, have loved this program. It’s great fun, and creates sweet relationships that can last a long time. In fact, even years later, many Coming of Age youth have requested past Special Friends to become their official mentors! If you would like to participate, or if you would like your child to participate, please fill out the insert you will find in the SPARK each week in January. Drop your form in the offering basket during the service, or place it in the box on the RE table outside the Fellowship Hall. Extra forms will be there, too. SIGN-UPS BEGIN ON SUNDAY, JANUARY 6.
DEADLINE IS SUNDAY, JANUARY 27. Adults who volunteer need to have been active GUUF members for at least SIX months, and are required to sign an Adult Behavior Contract, which includes permission for a background check. Participating children should be currently registered in CYRE in Pre-K 3 — 5th Grade. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call 864-494-3205 with questions.
