Notes from the Board

Hi, GUUF! The board wants to do better letting you know what we’re up to, so here’s a rundown of the projects we’ve been working on.

We’re having some significant erosion issues on the bank of the creek at the side of our property. We’ve had a little erosion there for a long time, but some of our landscaping was removed or damaged during the sewer project and it’s getting worse. Building and Grounds has been watching it closely, and we’ve authorized a study to see what can be done. There is also some water occasionally leaking into the sanctuary. B&G isn’t certain of the source, so they’re monitoring it closely especially during heavy rain.

We have completed the tentative budget for our fiscal year 2020-2021, and we’ll share it with you soon. We are very excited to present a functionally rich budget at a very modest increase in our contributions. It’s great seeing the goals coming from the Program Council on things they want to do and seeing the fundraisers and activities that everybody is planning. 2020-2021 is looking to be a great year!

We’re in the beginning stages of looking to hire a part-time bookkeeper. The admin transition presented a great opportunity to work with Rev. Lisa to assess job tasks and workflow in the office. At our current size, the duties asked of the CFO/Treasurer have become quite extensive and many require specialized training. Though the person in the administrator position can take on some of the financial tasks, best practices for transparency and security require that certain tasks be done by a different person.

We’re working on an organizational chart for the Fellowship (spoiler alert, the mission is at the top, followed closely by the congregation). New members and sometimes not-so-new members can be confused by how GUUF operates. It will be beneficial to have a visual diagram of how the Program Council, Board of Trustees, Minister, committees, etc., fit into the structure of the church.

The Board is also working on a major update to our Bylaws, which were last amended in 2012. We’ll get the word out later this year to allow for input from everyone on what we’ve come up with so far.

As always, we want to hear from you! If you have a question or concern about the fellowship, don’t hesitate to contact us or the relevant committee. You can find the email addresses on the contacts page of our website. https://greenvilleuu.org/about/contact-2/
