“Water Lily Paintings”

 Susan Staggs reception this Thursday (21 November) from 5-7 pm.
Refreshments will be served and the artist will speak briefly about her works at 6pm.

“These works are reflections of sky and trees on water with floating lily pads; studies from a visit to Monet’s Garden this past fall. I fell in awe of Giverny. I see the colors with my eyes closed and when I dream. While painting, I love the play between the colors and shapes of the surface of the water versus the natural objects of the landscape and the surface of the canvas.

I have always been attracted to the abstract quality of landscape painting. I can rest in nature and defer to its true sense of composition to guide my use of the design elements such as shape, color and contrast.”

Susan Staggs, a painter and Printmaker, has lived and worked in Atlanta, Georgia while raising her two children, completing her BFA and MFA from Georgia State University and during her 26 year teaching career.
She and her husband now live in Greenville. She works from a studio in her home and has exhibited and sold her painting and prints throughout the southeast for more than forty years. She is a member of the Contemporary Print Collective of the Upstate, enjoys working with people on projects through her church, particularly advocating for affordable housing in Greenville, and of course adores her friends, family and grandchildren including Ellie, the beagle.

Proceeds from the sale of her work will support GOAL, Greenville Organization for Accountable Leadership, to help secure funding for affordable housing and mental health services in Greenville. For more information about the organization go to www.goaljustice.com.
