We are sad to report that Susan Riegel passed away July 11. A virtual memorial service was held Sunday, August 16, 2020 at 3:00PM.
Susan Riegel was the daughter of the late James and Lillian Burke of Chicago, Illinois. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, William Riegel. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Regency Hospice and Griswold Home Care for their exceptional care during her long illness.
Susan and Bills’ careers took them back and forth across the country which led them to owning a number of homes. Susan very much enjoyed renovating and remodeling each of their homes and often said, “we are saving homes across the country, one house at a time.”
Susan worked in the financial securities field for many years, until, at the age of 38 she decided to pursue her passion and returned to school to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician. She went on to become very involved with the Greyhound adoption group in Michigan.
Susan and Bills’ connection to the Unitarian Universalist religion goes back to their wedding day 44 years ago where they were married outside of Chicago by a Unitarian minister in a Quaker meeting hall. After many years away from the fellowship, they joined GUUF after moving to Greenville. Although Susans health prevented her from getting more involved with the fellowship, she always enjoyed attending services and any events that she could. She always said that she was most comfortable with all of the people at GUUF.
