Soup-er Bowl Sunday is Coming February 2
MMM-mm. How great is a warm bowl of soup or chili and fun with friends on Sunday afternoon before the Superbowl? Pretty great, no matter who you’re rooting for. Here’s your chance!
The GUUF Youth Group is planning a delicious lunch for everyone to enjoy in the Fellowship Hall after service on Sunday, February 2. What a spread! There will be homemade chilis and soups, salads, breads or chips and toppings, and your choice of drinks and yummy dessert for only $6 donation for adults, $3 donation for kids, or $15 to cover the whole family. Wow! It’s a deal!
All proceeds go toward Youth Travel to regional Youth CONferences at The Mountain and mission trips for senior high teens. For more information, contact David Funderburk firstname.lastname@example.org, or Kathleen Anderson, email@example.com .
Be a Special Friend
For years at GUUF, lasting friendships have grown from pairing kind adults and lovely children (ages 3-11) as “Special Friends” during the week of Valentine’s Day. This year Special Friends week will begin on February 10-and culminate when the Special Friends meet at the World of Children Spaghetti Lunch on February 16.
First, all the kind adults and lovely children who want to be or have a Special Friend sign up. Next, staff pairs up all the adults and children and puts parents and SFs in touch. Then Special Friends contact parents to introduce themselves and learn important things about their new young friends.
During Valentine’s week, the adult Special Friend sends small notes and treats to her or his young Friend through the mail (This is OH!-SO-VERY exciting!) and creates a pair of matching nametags for both to wear for the reveal lunch. The child prepares a “Thank-You!” gift or note to bring to the dinner, when the Special Friends reveal themselves and families eat together.
If you would like to BE or to HAVE a Special Friend, FILL OUT the REGISTRATION FORM IN THE ORDER OF SERVICE or take one from the RE INFORMATION TABLE beside the sanctuary doors.
Place completed form(s) in the collection basket or drop it in the Special Friends “Mailbox” on the table in the Fellowship Hall. Deadline to register is Sunday, January 26.
*Note: Adult participants need to be active members of GUUF and/or have a history as an RE volunteer. Signed ethics contract required.
Become a Storyteller and work with our elementary age children. Learn how to play with the toys. Ask wondering questions. Talk to the children while they are “working.” It’s a lot of fun, and meaningful for you AND the children.
