|13 March, 2020: The GUUF COVID-19 Task Force has been working diligently over the past 24 hours to assess information and determine the best path forward as we watch this virus continue to spread across the country. It has become increasingly clear that the sooner protective measures like cancelling events and practicing social distancing are implemented, the better. Therefore, we have made the decision, effective immediately, to suspend all in-person public events in our building. For this weekend, events impacted are GUUF 101, the Stewardship Dinner, and all Sunday morning programming including the service. Info from SC-CDC|
The suspension will continue through the end of the month, at which time we will re-assess the situation and decide how to proceed.
“All public In-person Events” includes but is not limited to: Sunday services in the sanctuary, religious education classes, the thrift store, covenant circles, and all meetings and rentals. The Enchanted Chalice Renaissance Festival (April 3-4) has been postponed, date TBD.
The office will not be open regular hours during this time, though work will continue. Staff are encouraged to work remotely. We are working on options for continuing to find ways to connect even if we cannot meet in person, such as live-streaming of the Sunday service, chats with the minister, pastoral care, religious education, and more. Stay tuned for updates, and feel free to be in touch if you would like to help out.
GUUF leadership is in close communication with UUWOC staff and the two organizations are coordinating our responses. As of this morning, UUWOC is still open, and will follow their established procedures for both cleaning and closures.
I expect that this situation will continue to shift and change rapidly, and we will update you as it happens. Don’t hesitate to be in contact if you have questions or concerns. Please understand that this is entirely uncharted territory, and we are doing our best to respond in a timely, clear, and consistent manner. If you aren’t sure about something, please just ask for clarification. Thank you for your patience as we navigate this challenging and uncharted territory together,
