I Miss the Playground

Mark Hauser
Fellowship Member & Sports Broadcaster

Kids used to play pick-up ball. There were "do-overs", compromises and just plain old fist fights when two neighborhood teams didn't agree on the outcome of a play. Those days are gone. Now we have adult supervision beginning when 4-year olds play Tee-Ball. So how do we adults get out of the way so kids can work out their own solutions?

• 13 July: Guest Musician

Kiya Heartwood
Musician & Songwriter

Kiya is one-half of performing duo Wishing Chair and a Songwriter. Kiya will lead a service based in song and poetry. As Euan Bear writes, "Wishing Chair has a passion about the truth, about being emotionally available to tell it, and that for me, is the essence of folk music.” Her performing partner is Miriam Davison who led our closing song on June 8th.

• 20 July:

Five Wonderful Things

Rev. Jean Rowe

Rev. Jean M. Rowe retired in 2005 after 13 years as the first minister of the Neshoba UU Church in Cordova, TN, outside Memphis. She's been a UU minister or 27 years and served churches in Conord, NH and Little Rock, AR before going to Neshoba UU. Jean is a graduate of Tufts University (founded by Universalists) and Andover Newton Theological School, both in the Boston area, and has been a member of various UUA committees involved in ministerial education and preparation.

She serves as choir director for the Brevard UU's, serves on the Worship Team, and was Canvass Chair in 2007. She is Consulting Minister for the UU Fellowship in Tryon, NC and also regularly conducts worship at Franklin, NC once a month.

"I’ve been a member of five Unitarian Universalist churches in the 41 years I've been a Unitarian Universalist, and worked at four others. Some were large, some were small, some urban, some suburban. But over and over, I’ve found five wonderful things: freedom, reason, progress, openness, and faith. My journey and discoveries won't be the same as yours, but I offer my thoughts to enrich your own. And after 41 years, I'm still passionate about this religious movement."

Come find out why.

• 27 July: The Bucket List

Candy Kern-Fuller
Fellowship Member, Past President of Fellowship board & Attorney at Law

Drawing from the Buddhist principle of mindfulness and being completely present in the moment, this thought provoking sermon (inspired by the movie of the same name) is about how we often fail to live in the moment and what we can do about it.
